Windows RC1 a Huge Success

I installed Win7 RC1 in a dual boot configuration on a second hard drive (with my existing WinXP OS on the primary hard drive).

It installed very well, fast, and easily on my 5-year old PC that I built back in 2004. This PC has a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 processor with 2 GB of RAM.

Win7 set up the dual boot manager flawlessly. My GeForce 6600 video card works very well with the Aero Scheme.

Win7 is as fast as XP, probably faster. My Performance score is 3.8.

The only issue I had was with my 8-year old Sound Blaster Live sound card.

I had to go out and hunt down a Vista driver, which worked very well and produced the same 5.1 surround sound I have with XP.

Overall, I am very impressed. If Win7 can work so well on a 5-year old XP machine, think of how well it will perform on some of the more recent hardware.

It is really amazing. Micorsoft seems to have it right with Windows 7.
