Why I started watching TV shows on my computer

In 96/97 I got tired of my kids ruining the TV in the front room any where from accidentally spilling water into the case to playing in the room and cracking the screen.

At the time I had my Ham Shack in a separate room where I talked on the air and watched TV.

After about the 10th time of losing my TV and having to buy my self a new one.

I remember seeing a tv tuner card that would work with Windows 95.

So I bought that and never looked back.

I used a tv tuner card with all versions of Windows after that( the only WIndows I nevr had was Windows 2000).

Then Vista came along and I was able to use 2 analog and 2 HD TV’s on my computer.

I have over 150 TV shows/Movies recorded on to DVD’s. Vista when you burn a 2 hour movie to dvd divides it into about 8 chapters and looks just as good as when I recorded.

One thing when watching a movie or even some of the new series that is on analog TV that there is a black space above and below the viewing area.

Well if you have a Wide Screen LCD monitor (as I had with the start of Vista Beta 1 or when actually VIsta started to have drivers for all my hardware)there is actually the same black space on each side.

Now Vista/WIndows 7 has a zoom in Media Center that will actually fill the screen fully be it a 720 or 1080 capable screen.

Now there are a few cavets here-you need the best signal plus sometimes the broadcaster will kind of fudge on the clearity of the screen so you need the sharpest image possible.

But with all that I have just mentioned many time it looks very good-just remember that the upconvert can never be as sharp or as clear as a dvd movie or a blu-ray movie.

Another thing Vista and Windows 7 has is the capability of surround sound if the dvd movie/blu ray movie or even tv has surround sound with the right speakers -you’ve got it
