I hope you backupped first your precious data, so nothing would be lost, in case of. we also thinking about upgrading, but to my experience, you'll better do a clean install, all other programs you had in vista , have it ready to install it again on wee-seven. I know it is tough, but it always is, to transit from one OS to another. You can use the easy transfer programme from mikeysoft, if you wanne. according the guys who seems to know it all (windows 7 center), it is really worth the effort, so let's wait and see and have patience, lots of it, I'm afraid. we have had in VM mode several build versions and 7229 with the lingo pack seems to work quite well. have fun and enjooy, don't worry, be happy.

Try a dual boot configuration. that might work better that trying to upgrade or what not.
