Toshiba Qosmio G50 Laptop : remote control jumps two places in the menu list of WMC

I have just done a clean install of Windows 7 (32bit).
when using the Toshiba supplied RC6 remote in Windows Media Centre it jumps two places in the menu list.

I've downloaded the Win7 Winbond CIR driver but it makes no difference.

Very annoying as it does this on every manu list and even skips channels when watching TV.
