The PATA installation bug
by B-O

It's amazing that during Windows 7 installation the PATA interface is not recognized and working. This is a standard being present for a very long time and yet Microsoft mess it up.
Microsoft seems to lack expertise on core functionality and put all their effort on visual effects. They really should be ashamed of themselfs, as interacting with hardware is basic in any operationg system and even Microsoft needs to get it right.
They also have there own way to interact with APICs, which is very strange and differ from the standard way to interact with them. Maybe this may explain why Windows OSes often hang.
I'm now so tired of the unstability of Microsoft operating systems, so after over 25 years I will switch to Mac OS. The reason is simple. It's stable, I can access the internet bank and I can still use the office products. Linux, DOS or even Windows XP (if I will need it) can be run in Parallells workstation software. Overall I will get a stable environment and I have wasted too much time during the years on hanged computers.
Microsoft also tends to have too many dependencies on BIOS and ACPI implementation. So if these need to be exactly implemented in a certain way, why not document all these requirements so BIOS vendors can implement them correctly. Having files on the DVD that contains lists of BIOS identifications data and workarounds is so idiotic that I cant find words for it.
If Microsoft want to continue dominating the industri they need to shape up. Microsoft, if you need help designing your kernel, I'm willing to give you a helping hand. The functionality, user interfaces and everything else is very good. But the fundation it relies on is under all critics.
