The Best OS Around

Windows 7 has been on the market for over a year now, so how does it stack up now?

Windows has never been faster since the release of the new Intel Core i processors. With the relatively small footprint of windows 7 leaves tons of room for other programs like Office, Firefox, and Photoshop to use more of the computers power. Essentially windows 7 makes the most out of the hardware by being smaller and lighter than previous versions.

The new design of windows 7 is a huge step in the right direction. when Microsft released Vista, it was an attempt to create a nice user interface, but vista had it's own problems being slow and bulky. In my mind, Windows 7 has utilizes a new design that surpasses that of any other operating system, even Mac OSX. The taskbar has been given a whole new makeover making switching between programs easier than in any other OS.

Search speed has also gotten a whole lot better. XP's search companion was slow to say the least, although i miss the little puppy. Vista attacked this problem by implementing search indexing in the most common places you would have stuff, like personal folders. Vista then introduced the start menu search which i found to be horrendously slow and inaccurate. It was a great idea but it needed a lot of work, which is xactly what they did with windows 7. I know use the search bar on the start menu all the time, i don't know how i would survive without it.

Finally the best improvement was the faster sleep and resume speed. I had used Windows XP for a great deal of time and the sleep and resume time was pretty good but not great. Windows vista was a disaster at this. But windows 7 has gotten it's act together and it is so much faster at sleep and resume than any of it's predecessors.

So those are my highlights of Windows 7. I strongly recommend it to anyone stuck in XP or vista. You don't need a whole new computer in most cases to run it, however with PC prices these days i would strongly suggest buying a new computer with a core i processor in it for that is the perfect complement to windows 7.
