Search window opens then immediately closes

Windows 7 x64 Search See All Results (Alt + Enter) window opens momentarily then closes. Just started happening a couple of weeks ago. No problems during first 7 months of use.
I click Start then enter the search term in the search window and it starts listing what it finds in a single column.
Since I know the full results can not appear in that display I either click on See All Results or I press Alt + Enter and, as I said, the results window opens for a flash then closes so abruptly that it is useless.
Am I the only one on the North American continent with this particular problem?
