screen saver dissapeared

My desktop picture has dissapeared but reappears for a split second at log off or when selecting "show desktop"This happened once before and I fixed it but, for the life of me I cannot remember how?

For example if I go to "personalization " the desktop options are there as is the picture I select for "use as dektop background" but the desktop is blackor any colour chosen but no desktop picture,just the "spit second thing"!Any Ideas? THANK YOU RK.
