Problems after power outages
by Lori
(Arkansas)
I don't know if this is directly related to Win 7 or my computer itself.
I bought this computer in mid April, it's now mid May. When I was very first setting it up I plugged it in and got it up and running. Shortly after someone plugged something else in to the outlet I was using not knowing there was a short and if you bump it it disconnects. So, it disconnected. I turned the computer back on, it asked me if I wanted to restart in safe mode or regular. Since Windows hadn't crashed I said normal. No problems, however not 2 or 3 minutes after that the plug was bumped again and I lost power to the computer. I tried to reboot it and it failed. I tried in safe mode and it failed. It took me multiple times before I was able to get it back up and running.
We were only staying at that location temporarily so we moved a few days later and in our new place, it seemed that our outside breaker was going out. Same situation. Power was cut off to the entire place shortly after I had booted up my computer. We fixed it and I turned the computer back on and boom...lost power again.
Ever since then, Windows 7 doesn't seem to be working correctly. My Windows Vista computer could have power shut off on it as often as it wanted and it would reboot just fine. On the new (supposedly better) system, Firefox is ALWAYS freezing up on me, several times a day. Most of the time it will do it when I step away from the computer for long enough that it goes to sleep. I "wake" it up and the next task I give it on Firefox, it freezes up. When it says "Not Responding" I click control-alt-delete and expect the task manager to come up. It does...eventually. But usually only after Firefox has started running again on its own. It has only started up while Firefox is still non responsive a couple of times.
I also get a lot of Adobe Flash Player crashes. It could be that Adobe is just having trouble, but it's really coincidental in my book.
All of this is really getting on my nerves. Please tell me there is something I can do to correct this.
