PC locks up

I purchased 2 Acer desktops with Win 7 64 bit last year, and recently each one has a similar problem of locking up intermittently, eg; the cursor freezes and I'm unable to start the task manager. The only fix requires a cold boot.

I have found many other users on the forums with the same problem, and not able to find an answer.
