Not a Great Story, Just a Sad One

I bought a new Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 64-bit OS. At first I thought it was familiar enough to sue with minimal retraining.

That was until I noticed other people taking ownership of entire directories on my computer. I saw my entire C drive as a shared network item, and when I went to take ownership back and block sharing it locked me out, because it was already configured as a network resource.

I had to do a system restore to get ownership of my own computer back from never never land.

I'm just realizing what the stupid Libraries are, and their idiotic structure that allows anybody and everybody to see and access your personal files. There is a way to hide your sensitive personal files and pics, but you have to know exactly how to set up your files and folders to do that.

Right now my biggest most infuriating item making me want to take this laptop and shove it up a MS software engineers ass is the so called "Help and Support" that NEVER returns a valid relevant answer to my queries.

It's the same online too. Another thing I don't like seeing is my website configuration files popping up in some library that Windows 7 thinks is appropriate given the file type.

I ALSO EXPERIENCED THE DELETION OF FILES AFTER AN UPDATE (APPARENTLY) AND ALL MY RESTORE POINTS DISAPPEARED AS WELL. I SAW SOME MS SUPPORT ENGINEER DEGRADING A GUY THAT SUGGESTED IT IS A BIGGER ISSUE WITHIN THE UPDATE PACKAGE.

WITH ALL THESE AUTOMATED SYSTEM CONFIGURATIONS BURIED IN THE SERVICES, AND RUNNING AROUND EVERYTHING WE DO TO LIMIT WHAT WE CAN DO, IS IT SO HARD TO BELIEVE SOME ROGUE SCRIPT OR MACRO WENT IN AND CLEANED OUT FILES THAT IT SHOULDN'T HAVE?

I bought an external desktop hard drive, 1 terabyte!, and had some issues connecting it to my laptop. One night I spent a good 2 hours just watching the things happening in the background through System Performance Information, I think. Since I was watching for activity suggesting the hard drive was finally connected, and configured the computer essentially was idle.

I wish I could remember exactly what I saw, but it made me wonder exactly what Windows 7 is designed to do, and when will we be told we can not be administrators or our own computers.

I've seen permissions changed by remote administrators when I was learning XP and messed around with things I knew nothing about. In Windows 7 I see services running that were specifically for a domain server in the XP OS.

I see those services running and connecting even when I think my wifi is off. Suddenly there's another WiFi connection called Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport. I like to have control of my computer. I would like it if people at Microsoft would communicate with me about issues, and their resolution.

I too often see log files where the software is set up to hide and be silent so it can get past configurations put in place by the administrator (me), or sometimes the software log says something about settings non existent, proceed anyway.

Maybe it's nothing, but all this stuff forcing us to accept everything that comes out of that MSUpdate site, but more often than not the updates are the cause of new issues.

Immediately after I upgraded my old desktop from XP Home to XP Professional, I installed IE8. Shortly after that there was this huge issue with MS Update. As I started reading through the update logs I noticed the issue popped up right after a series of security updates for IE8.

The worst part was the exact same thing happened to my laptop and IE8 shortly after that. I didn't notice it on my laptop, because so much of is completely hidden. It wasn't until I started looking into weather or not it was actually set up for updates that I found the same big issue.

I also don't get the lying about Windows 7 calling it a new OS when it's essentially Vista. I realized that whenever I went to MS support Vista was always part of the solution files. At first I would try to force a Windows 7 solution, but it became apparent that Windows 7 is Vista.

At this moment I'm trying to find out if I can get rid of Windows 7 before I literally pull the OS out with my bare hands. It's a shame on MS for always forcing us to use a "new" OS when it's obvious that this OS has just as many issues as any of their previous products.

I saw a post on Yahoo about Windows 7 basically trying to copy Apple. They would be doing well if MS could copy Apple. I'm sorry I rambled on for so long, but I really needed to vent my feelings about this ridiculous OS.

I was bouncing around from MS to Toshiba to Google because the others wouldn't return relevant content. I can't stand the way manufacturers bundle a bunch of their software on top of an already convoluted Operating System, then try to address the bugs as they come out in the Guinea Pig stage of development.

I HATE Windows 7. Thanks for the outlet.
