My first computer was an HP dv7 1232nr, and was a cool computer as far as what it said it would do, but I happen to get a faulty model, with Vista Home Premium OS.
I had sent in the computer several times, but it still gave me problems, plus I did not know how sensitive an OS could be.
Through some horrific experiences I have went from "couldn't attach a file to an e-mail" to "running my own diagnostics, and actually understanding how these things work".
The first time I tried to use Windows 7 Home Premium was on a rented computer, and I actually did not like it, I thought it was TOO ADVANCED for someone like me. Boy, was I wrong!
I am 51 years of age, and basically never considered myself a computer wiz. I want a phone for a phone, a computer for a computer, and if I want to socialize I will go to the local pub, and shoot pool. In March of 2009 I decided to go back to school and found I needed a computer.
It was not long before I had a printer, fax, external hard drive, and all the things that go with it.
I ended up buying external speakers so my HP dv7 at the time would rock while I studied. I printed out help articles and made a manual for my OS, and software because I am not a screen reader, I have to print everything.
I use a lot of paper but I recycle, and use every scrap of paper.
After using Windows 7 Home Premium "Windows Heaven" for a while, I soon realized that I was going to buy Windows 7 for my OS.
I did not have to buy this as I thought, and after three nervous breakdowns, and putting those close to me through he__, HP Customer Service finally listened, realized what I had been telling them all along was right.
I literally was going to go to the news media, which one station will investigate spedific issues such as mine, and go public with it. I posted to a few sites speaking my mind, and then it was not long before the word "option" came up.
Now I have a HP dv7 4190us that I am still not sure is real, don't know how to use half of what its got, but can guarantee, is cleaned, optimized, and will only run major programs one at a time.
I had a crash course in computers and OS through watching, and asking questions of HP tech support by remote control. I do always purchase the extra no fault warranty because the tech support alone is well worth the money.
Windows Heaven does it all for you, and if you be in there messing around, and click something that could hurt the computer, the computer will tell you what to do. Thank you developers of Windows 7.
I must clarify, Vista is a good OS, but I found that issues could be vista specific, which is shown when visiting Microsoft Website, there is a special category for Vista users.
With my disabilities, me and Vista did not match, but Windows "Heaven", 7 is great. I love the troubleshooters, and the user guides. I have learned to fix most things through research, and desparation to stay in school.
Unforunatly, my 4.0 is now 3.?, and am only taking one class, so I can catch up and regroup, and having to take two classes over and will not graduate as planned. I did not have the luxery of being able to go to the library, or friends to use a computer, and the terrible time getting what I paid for took it's toll on me.
All in all, I learned valuable info on computers' and software, and also using it for my passion of digital photography. Window 7 has it all, just one thing, I need more info then what I am finding on how to use and which one of the programs that came with my new computer.
So Microsoft need more info on things like photo programs I don't have to buy. Also, I am not a public person, and do not file share, (afraid and don't know how, because I am afraid something will infect my computer, and then I have to go through the whole thing again. Did I tell you to get all of these things accomplished took six months.
I called Norton and told them my computer was down and I was not using my subscription, they said no prob, and when I did get my new computer, I called them immediantly to be honest.
They gave me back the months I had lost plus credit for another issue, and did not once question me or give me hard time. HP your people in certian locations need to take lessons from the techs at Norton (symantec)on how to deal with customers, and to remember when the customer can prove through documentation their case, Listen!
The customer may not always BE right, but thats the motto, and if you advertise it keep your word.
I should never of had to go through that experience, and had to bring up my disabilities (which I try NOT to do), to get someone to listen.
Microsoft, you guys listen too, and I have no complaints when dealing with your company except for the so called partner which sells office suites at student discounts, but want to charge for discs that come with the suites when you purchase them.
Any way that company is not very good with the customer, messed up my order three times, then tried to charge me again.
Ok, now im rambling, sorry, but know these notebook computers I think are the way to go, but mine is full size screen, Love It! WINDOWS 7 (HEAVEN) is the OS I prefer. Need more info about media center.
Thank you for letting me vent, and speak my mind.
