Midi Yoke & windows 7
by: G1nner

So really then what you are all waffling on about is that nothing works particularly well at all?

Seems to me that there are many many many 'experts' talking about this issue and also regarding syncing and running audio from Traktor to Ableton but no one actually has the answer!!!

Over to a Mac for me I reckon.

Thanks for the heads up

I was thinking of upgrading my Vista PC to Windows 7 hoping that they put back the midi output selection tool on the control panel (given that so many Vista users were p.o'd that this functionality was removed). Sad to hear that Windows 7 is worse! I manually changed the registry, but that means I can only play my midi files through my keyboard. If I want to download and sample midi files with Windows Media Player, I have to edit the registry back to "ffffff". Too much effort!

use timidity++
by: Anonymous

midimapper will not work as there is only the crappy ms software synth.
here is a very easy and good workaround:
http://blog.ginchen.de/2009/02/21/besserer-midi-sound-teil-ii-soundfonts-in-windows-mit-timidity/ (german)

basically, you install timidity++ and its driver with http://sourceforge.jp/projects/twsynth/ and then add your soundfont. I recommend http://www.bismutnetwork.com/10Music/Crisis/Soundfont3.0.php

Agree with Midi Yoke Issue
by: Anonymous

I was able to get MIDI Yoke working in Vista but that procedure (msconfig->Tools->Disable UAC) is not available in Windows 7. Bummer.

Midi Output and Win 7

I also found that Windows 7 has some limitations with midi. I relied on Midi Yoke for my virtual midi patch cables; however, I couldn't get it to load on Vista or Win 7. But, there is a nice little program that does work with Vista and Windows 7. LoopBe does the job that Midi Yoke use to do for me. You can find it here: http://nerds.de/en/download.html
