malfunctioning GFX drivers

by Van Houtryve

I've had better installs of an OS that actually worked.

Windows 7 did not like my graphics card and for that reason I simply had to remove it.

The complete installation of the windows 7 RC went smooth (part from the CD).

After that it rebooted and every time it was supposed to go into windows it rebooted. (stuck at the 'setup is preparing your pc for first use')

After letting my pc reboot every 10 seconds for about 4-5 hours it finally got into windows itself.

I installed a language pack, rebooted and there it was stuck in the reboot cycle 'again' while trying to boot.

I decided to start the pc in safe mode, which went flawlessly.

A long story short, after a long search I discovered it was my graphics card drivers that caused the reboots.

I tried using the drivers of windows 7 and installing the ones of NVIDIA's website (who were for windows 7 64bit) and both kept getting stuck in the reboot cycle.

If I disabled the graphics card drivers I could get into windows 7 without a problem (normal, not safe mode).

My graphics card was an NVIDIA Geforce 9300M GS.

All in all I would like to have tried the RC of windows 7, as I've heard a lot of positive feedback on it.

I simply can't be bothered to put more effort into actually being able to boot a damn OS, so I've switched back to VISTA.

I wanted to give my feedback to microsoft, but I didn't have a clue how, and there's NOWHERE a website where I could.

So I decided to put it here, who knows. Maybe they'll find it someday.
