I have done what you are preposeing. that is clean up one drive and install 7 on it while keeping xp. Though we have one slight difrence in our situations...

My computor should be dead by now. O.K my pc is a Pentium 4 - 3.0Ghz With 512 RAM. and i must say my windows 7 runs like a giant wet dream...
