I cannot download attachments either. I'm using MSN with no client. Every time I try to download an attachment the screent freezes.

Have you tried reinstalling your e-mail client?

Also, if you have not tried it, Windows Live Mail is working very well for me under Windows 7 Ultimate Edition and I have no such problem. I have 11 (yes eleven) accounts spread across four different servers including POP, IMAP, and other type servers, they all work pretty much seamlessly. I may add a few more and see how it handles it.
