I finally broke down and upgraded Windows XP (32bit) to Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit).
I skipped Vista altogether as I heard nothing good about it so this was quite the change for me.
My system is several years old, I have a first generation 64bit motherboard with AGP slot, PCI, all t he old slots so I was a little apprehensive about whether my system could run this or not.
I was pleasantly surprised. It runs it and it runs it well, fast, smooth and painless.
I had been toying with the idea of switching to Ubuntu 64bit, which is a nice OS and pain free to install, but finally stuck with Windows 7.
I was surprised to see that the Windows 7 installation was just as easy and pain free as Ubuntu. It’s amazing how Linux installs had actually become a lot more simpler than Windows, but with Windows 7, not anymore.
Like Linux, Windows 7 auto-detected everything, it was almost a hands free operation.
It picked up my optimal monitor resolution and set it for me without any prompts, it detected my cable Internet connection and set it up automatically, no prompts, no driver downloads.
When all was done, I had barely done a thing and I was ready to go online, play my games, program or whatever without having to search for and install drivers. VERY impressed and I will definitely recommend this to everyone I know.
