Windows 7 User Submissions

EFisher

So far, I am very impressed with Windows 7. I have the RC1 loaded on my laptop and have been using BitLocker in many ways, concerning research for the company I am employed with.

In doing so, I have also been testing BitLocker To Go, Windows 7's solution to the encryption of removable media. Here is one thing I've come across that I was curious about.

My system drive is encrypted with BitLocker, as well as my USB thumb drive. This USB thumb drive was also the location at which I stored the encryption recovery key for my system drive.

It only made sense that a removable media device with specific and important information, such as encryption recovery keys, should also be encrypted.

Unfortunately, when the USB drive is encrypted, the system no longer recognizes that it is plugged into the laptop OR that it contains the encryption key necessary for the laptop to launch.

I'm not sure if this is specific to design, or if it is something that should be looked into, before the final release.
