disappearing icons.

On a recent reboot, all the desktop icons have completely disappeared!

Under users/user name/desktop the shortcuts are still there, yet refuse to appear on the desktop. Any newly created desktop icon refuses to appear, yet appears in the users/user name/desktop folder.

I have tried disabling and re-running explorer.exe, yet the problem remains.

Any tips on resolving this annoying bug would be appreciated.
