Windows 7 User Submissions

Clean Install?

I have a Dell Desk top (Vista home prenium) and a HP Laptop Vista Ultimate. I have pre-ordered 2 Windows 7 Home premium upgrades.

I hear doing a clean install is by far the best way to go. My question is that if I do a "Clean Install" how will it be an upgrade?

wouldnt that require new windows 7 and not the upgrade? With a clean install there is nothing there showing I have a certified vista product?

Thats were I am confused.
