Accessing fonts in Windows 7
By John Campbell
Accessing Your Fonts
All versions of Windows from Windows 95 right up to the
present iteration, Windows 7 have included an extensive list
of Fonts. These are normally viewed using the Control Panel.
There are two ways to get to your Fonts.
Method 1
This method takes advantage of Windows 7 Search feature
which provides east and quick access to just about
everything to do with your computer.
- Press the Windows key.
- In the Search box, type fonts.
- Search window opens displaying Fonts (top option).

- Press the Enter key.
- The Fonts window opens.
- The installed fonts are displayed in the Fonts window.

Method 2
This method is a little slower as it uses the more
conventional way to access the Control Panel before
providing you with access to the installed Fonts.
Note: This method involves changing how you view the contents of the Control Panel.
- Click the Start Button.
- Select Control Panel.

- When the Control Panel window opens, click the down arrow button next to Category.
- In the drop-down menu, select Large icons.

- All the items within control panel are now listed.
- Choose Fonts.

- The installed fonts are displayed in the Fonts window.

Note: By now you should be able to see how much quicker it is to use the Search feature to get to programs.
Investigating the Fonts Window
In the Fonts window the illustration below you will see that
some fonts are greyed out and others are bolder. The greyed
out ones are unavailable and the bold ones readily
accessible.

In my next article on Fonts and Windows 7, we’ll look
closer to the options listed in the left-hand side of the
Fonts window.
They are:
- Font Settings
- Get more for the information online
- Adjust Clear Type text
- Find a character
- Change font size
