Using Problem Steps Recorder in Windows 7

 

Thanks to Problem Steps Recorder in Windows 7 you can take screenshots and comment on your problem; this way tech support will be able to identify your problem and help you solve it.

Come to think of it, that friend of yours could help you out without coming to you - just present the problem via Problem Steps Recorder and he may figure it out.

Here is what you have to do to use Problem Steps Recorder in Windows 7:

Step 1. Start (click the Start button on the screen, press the Start key on the keyboard – the one with the Microsoft logo on it) -> in the search box type in psr.exe -> press Enter

Step 2. Problem Steps recorder will launch. Press Start Record -> go though the steps and recreate your problem.

Step 3. When you are done, press Stop Record -> select the location where you would like to save the output file -> save the output file (it is saved as a zipped HTML web archive)

Step 4. Email the output file to tech support or whoever is helping you with your problem. Alternatively you cold just share the file on the network.

Tips and warnings

  • For added convenience you could place a Problem Steps Recorder shortcut on the desktop. The directory path for the shortcut should be C:/Windows/System32/psr.exe
