"You're
doing what?" My boss asked.
It was 2008, the economy had started to show signs of instability and I had just
walked into my boss's office and given my notice. It felt great!
I was leaving everything I knew and could depend on after 17 years in IT to
continue my career as an online Marketing and Web strategy expert.
After 7 years of learning about the power of the web at
night while working an IT job during the day, my "hobby" income was finally enough to support me.
Let me back up.
It all started in 2003 when I was chatting with a buddy of mine in the hallway
at work. He started telling me about a system that enabled him to make money
online.
Being the jaded IT resource that I was, I rolled my eyes, laughed and walked away. You see, I had spent about 15 years in IT implementing very complex Financial, HR and Supply Chain systems for large clients.
I had worked internationally and lived in Silicon Valley during the dot com
boom and bust. I was making a very healthy six-figure salary and was a massive
skeptic of anything "online."
The week after that, we talked again and he repeated what he had said. I laughed
but this time he smiled and told me my timing was great.
He reached into his briefcase and showed me an Adsense check he had received
from a company name Google.
I wasn't laughing anymore. This is America. Money talks.
He gave me a lead to a very
pivotal ebusiness self-study course. I spent a couple of days reading
through the material and doing research and even though I didn't know it, my
life changed on that day.
The more I learned, the more hooked I got. I built websites and learned business
principles, learned about supply and demand, and refined my web skills.
As I got better, my sites would bring more and more people a day, eventually reaching 8,000 to 10,000 people a day. As I got the traffic, I learned how to monetize (make money from) that traffic.
Before I knew it, I was making a healthy income on the side. Even though I
also made a (very) healthy income from my day job but there was no doubt about
what my passion was. I was hooked.
After a while (with encouragement from my beautiful wife), I knew it was time to
take the leap.
In October of 2008, I walked away from a six figure income to do what I love and
I haven't looked back once.
I started my consulting business
Nnigma and have been able to combine my business and technology background
with my online expertise.
It's the best of both worlds now. We get to teach business clients how to
properly leverage the power of the internet and use it to add business value to
their customers.
In addition to being a business owner, I am also a big tech geek and have been
interested in Microsoft products for as long as I can remember.
I was fascinated with Windows Vista, I am excited about Windows 7 and I am seriously looking forward to Windows 8.
This site is dedicated to being a one stop information repository for all things Windows 7.
If you need to know anything about Windows 7, you should be able to find it on this site.
In addition, we plan to focus on corporate deployments of Windows 7 and related tools.
If Windows 7 is as successful as we think it's going to be, this will be the place to learn about deploying 7 in the enterprise.
Feel free to send me
your questions and comments. I love to get feedback from our readers.
