Dell releasing Windows 7 tablets soon
There is growing speculation that Dell is releasing a
Windows 7 tablet geared towards business applications. Not
much information has been gathered so far, except that the
tablet will be 10 inches in size, will be running on the
Windows 7 platform, and could be out on the market as early
as May with a possible follow-up by January 2012 that will
be using Windows 8.
The leaked news is certainly good for those awaiting tablet devices using Windows platforms. Microsoft have been late in coming to push Windows on tablet devices, with fierce rival Apple already gaining much ground in this field.
The first offering of Dell will be called “Rosemount” and will be a welcome addition to the business enterprise series of tablet devices. However, Rosemount will likely be a high-end product, and not one which is aimed for general consumers.
While there are no other known specifications released about Rosemount for now, we will certainly know more in the near future, hopefully through an official press release as there has been a leak from inside Dell already. Let’s hope that it’s worth the wait - The Windows 7 platform will certainly offer a big advantage to integrate existing device investments.
Whilst many people can’t wait for Rosemount to hit the stores, there is news of a second offering in the works, tentatively known as the “Peju”.
While Peju is unofficially scheduled to be released in January of next year using the Windows 8 platform, I am not convinced that this will be released that early as there has been no official announcement yet made by Microsoft about the scheduled release of Windows 8 and the features it includes. This might be just pure speculation, and until there are no official press releases about Windows 8 from Microsoft, we should not hold our breath regarding Peju.
Let’s stay vigilant with Rosemount first. While Dell is also producing Android OS devices, the addition of a Windows 7 enabled tablet is certainly a promising offering, for it will allow consumer use of business applications on the go. There are many more applications built for Windows than any other platform, and so having a high-end mobile computing device will surely increase productivity potential.
This is certainly a great move by Dell. The release of Rosemount is eagerly anticipated. Watch this space as we expect more news about this revolutionary new device any day now.
